Following today’s news of the planned rail strikes going ahead this week, I am reaffirming my commitment to stand with workers in their fight for better pay and conditions.

The Government have decided to fan the flames of division rather than facilitate dialogue.

The RMT are made up of every single type of worker in the rail industry, from cleaners and signallers, to engineers and conductors. They are striking because their jobs are at risk with attacks on pensions, forced redundancies through cutting safety inspections by 50%, and cuts to catering services, among others.

Let me be clear, nobody wants to go on strike. These workers have no choice due to the cost of living crisis and attacks on their jobs from a Government intent on a race to the bottom.

These strikes are the Government’s making.

I stand with RMT and all workers striking for better pay and conditions. I will be joining rail workers on the picket line this week.

Solidarity.
