Mary has pledged her support to Stonewall and Ban Conversion Therapy’s campaigns to make sure that the Government’s legislation to outlaw conversion therapy practices are inclusive of trans conversion therapy.

The Government has been widely criticised, including by many of its own party, of failing to adopt an approach to ban conversion therapy that includes transgender conversion therapy. Despite this criticism, the Queen’s Speech outlined the Government’s position on conversion therapy, showing that transgender conversion therapy was not to be included in legislation.

Reacting to this Mary said

I support a trans-inclusive ban on conversion therapy.
Despite repeated assurances this Government once again are failing our trans community.
A full ban should have been included in the Queen’s Speech.
The House of Commons returned to a new Parliamentary sitting on Tuesday 10th May following the State Opening of Parliament and the Queen’s Speech, which sets out the agenda for the Government’s legislation. Mary will continue to hold the Government to account and press for the right thing for her constituents.
