Storm Malik Update 30/01/22
Storm Malik Update 30/01/22

Following Storm Malik battering the region yesterday I’ve been informed there are roughly 19,000 homes across the North East and parts of Yorkshire still without power.

Northern Powergrid drafted in additional support to ensure they were able to work for as long as it was safe to do so last night to reconnect as many customers as possible. NPG hope the remainder will be restored at some point today.

As Storm Corrie is expected to arrive this afternoon, I’m aware that Durham County Council are currently working with partners to identify vulnerable persons who may require assistance. DCC staff were deployed across the county yesterday evening to make contact with vulnerable households.

If you are aware of vulnerable residents who have not been contacted, or you require support yourself, don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’ll ensure the relevant details are passed on to DCC – mary.foy.mp@parliament.uk

For any domestic customer still off supply at 08:00 on the 30 January 2022:

✅ NPG will pay reasonable costs for food of up to £15 per person per meal.
✅ For anyone not reconnected by 14:00 on 30/1 NPG will pay the reasonable costs for alternative accommodation.
✅ Customers must retain receipts and send them in an e-mail including an outline of what they would like to claim to stormmalikclaims@northernpowergrid.com

To report power outages the advice from NPG continues to be to call 105.

Stay safe and well and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any concerns.
