There are many places that have opened their doors to help people in the City of Durham constituency who are without power following the recent storm.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has opened their doors to help others in this time of need. You are a credit to your communities and we are all grateful for your help in these challenging times.
Here is a list of places (that will be updated as we get more info on places offering support) you can go to to warm up, grab a cuppa, and charge your devices:
The Flass Inn – Ushaw Moor
You can grab a cuppa and warm up in Ushaw Moor’s The Flass Inn. They’ve kindly offered to serve free coffee and tea to those without power. Bring your phone charger to keep your devices topped up.

Sherburn Hill Community Hub – Sherburn Hill
Sherburn Hill Community Hub has kindly offered their space for those wanting a warm place of shelter and to charge electronic devices.

Beaurepaire Communal Hall & Bearpark Workingmen’s Club – Bearpark
If you need a warm place, phone charged, or a hot beverage, Beaurepaire Communal Hall is open from 9am today (29th November) to offer help. There is also a mobile catering unit providing hot food and drinks.
Durham Area Youth – Sherburn Village, Sherburn Hill, Pittington, Littletown, West Rainton, Shadforth, West Rainton
Durham Area Youth have kindly offered to support areas in the areas they operate in. Please look out for village halls and community centres that are open as they will more than likely be in use with Durham Area Youth volunteers offering to help keep people safe and warm in the aftermath of the storm.
Pittington Community Association and Village Hall – High Pittington
The Village Hall in High Pittington will be open from 9am this morning (29th November) offering hot drinks, bacon sandwiches, and a chance to charge devices.

Ludworth Community Centre – Ludworth
Ludworth Community Centre is open until 4pm today (Monday 29th Nov) offering hot drinks and flask refills. It will also be open again tomorrow if needed.
Hotel Indigo – Old Elvet
Hotel Indigo in Old Elvet, DH1 3HL, have kindly offered complimentary teas and coffess in the Rotunda Bar as well as a place to charge your devices. If you are in need of a place to stay while power is restored please speak to General Manager, Tom, who will assist you with lower prices for stay.
