I’m aware that many communities across City of Durham are still experiencing power cuts. I have been in regular contact with Northern Powergrid over the last couple of days to press for updates on the progress in restoring power to these areas.
I received a brief update early this morning (Monday 29th November) from Northern Powergrid which I wanted to share with constituents who may still be without power.
Engineers have restored power to 180,000 of the 242,000 homes and businesses which were effected by Storm Arwen and they will continue to work hard to ensure those still affected have their power supplies back on ASAP.
I last emailed Northern Powergrid at 11pm yesterday evening to supply the postcodes of constituents who I was aware still had issues with their supply, including the area which covers Thornley House, Sherburn Hospital as there were concerns for elderly residents. I’ll continue to share any updates I receive as the day goes by.
Update from Northern Powergrid this morning (Monday 29th November):
“If you are currently without power, it is very likely that you will be off supply through the night and into tomorrow.
If you can seek alternative accommodation with family and friends it is recommended to do so – or if you know someone without power, consider if you can offer support.
We are prioritise those that are medically dependent on electricity. Our contact centre, social media, and website remain extremely busy. We ask that you only contact us if you are at risk, so we can keep our channels clear for those who may need us.
